Newborn FAQ's

What age is best for newborn photographs?

Renee V Photography highly recommends having your newborn photographed within the first 2 weeks of your baby’s life. This is when their newborn moments and poses are at their best.
It is also when they are at their most flexible and usually prior to any colic or baby pimples developing.

When should I book my newborn photography session?

We urge you to book a date while you are in your second trimester. Pre-booking secures your newborn session and allows the Studio to put your due date in the diary and prepare for your newborn session.
Once your baby is born, it is important that you contact the Studio within the first 48 hours to finalise your session date and time.

How do I book in a newborn session when I don't know when my baby will arrive?

Booking is easy, once your session deposit is paid, I pencil your Due Date into my calendar.  This helps keep track of how many sessions I might have that month.  Then once baby makes his/her arrival, please let me know as soon as you can so I can schedule your session in at an appropriate time.

What happens if my baby or I have an extended hospital stay due to complications?

Just let me know as soon as possible and we will coordinate on the best day to get you in for your session.  The sooner the better but please don't stress about it, we will make it work even if it's not within the "ideal" time frame of between 4-12 days.

Do you only do Newborn sessions when they are under two weeks new?

No, I do all ages, but the sweet spot is 4-12 days new.  It is important to know that newborns are never turned away from my studio, however, certain poses might not be possible the older they get.

How long does a newborn photo session take?

Newborn photography sessions last up to 2 hours.

Can I bring siblings to the newborn photography session?

Absolutely, but please bring something for them to keep entertained as they do tend to get bored.

What if my toddler doesn't cooperate?

Children are children, and we the best we can working with children of all ages.  Sometimes a little bribe helps ;)

Do I need to bring props?

Definately not, I have a well-stocked studio full of knitted outfits, blankets, bonnets, wraps to beautiful, handcrafted beds and baskets.  If there is something special, you'd like to include, please let me know so I can plan accordingly.

My baby still has their umbilical cord on, is it ok to take photos?

Yes of course, most babies that come in still have their cord on, as it can take a few weeks to fall off.  When we wrap babies, we wrap with their diaper on and cover the cord so that it does not catch on the fabric wraps.  When they are naked, we gently cover the area to keep it protected.

What do I need to bring?

I have everything here, but some items you may require are: Nappy Bag, Bottles (if bottle feeding), Sibling, Parent outfits, dummy.

The studio is very warm, so please wear something cool and comfortable.  If you are having photographs with baby, neutral colours and no logos work best.

How much is a newborn photography session?

The session fee of $150 is due at time of booking to secure your date in my calendar and this does not include digital images, prints etc.  You then choose a package approx. a week after your session.

My baby is over 14 days, can you still photography them?

Yes of course, I photograph babies of all ages, although sometimes as they get older, it's allot tougher to get those curled up newborn sleepy poses.  You will still have beautiful images of your baby captured.

When do I get to see the newborn images?

Approximately 1 week after your session, via Private Online Gallery.

Will I receive the images un-edited or raw?

All my images are professional enhanced to Fine Art images.  I do not supply Raw or un-edited files.  You will find this is the case with all professional photographers.  I carefully edit each image from your session by removing blemishes, correcting skin tones, white balances, colour casts and much more, before converting these images into high resolution files for printing and sharing.

Can I order professional prints through you?

Absolutely!  I work with the top professional print labs in Australia.  Your images deserve to be printed and displayed for your family to enjoy and treasure for years to come.  Renee V Photography offers beautiful high-quality prints and custom products.  From traditional prints. mounted prints and gallery wrapped canvases, to premium heirloom albums and acrylic blocks there is truly something for everyone!

What if I want more images than my package includes?

Yes, I do photograph multiples and no there is no extra charge.
